MC Meerkat

Event Manager [ LCR Sessions ]

MC Meerkat a.k.a. Pepijn Ham is the main event manager of LCR and co-manager of the LCR team next to MASTER KONG. Primarily responsible for the preperation and management of all LCR events.

I organized my first music event when I was 19 years old. It was a small indoor festival where local musicians could hang out, jam, follow workshops and perform. It was one of the best days of my life. A year later, I started organizing Tech-House/House events with a couple of friends around Amsterdam, which I did for about two years and every single one was amazing to work on.

The thing I loved about organizing events, is the joy and freedom you can give to another person. The feeling you get when you see someone dancing their ass off at a party you helped to organise, when someone walks up to you to give you a hug and thank you for the party, when you see people posting pictures of your event online, saying they loved it, that's one of the best feelings in the world.

For me joy and freedom are the most important things in the world, without true freedom, creativity dies, without creativity progress dies, and when progress dies, humanity will not live. Freedom is also an important aspect of Liberty City Records. We give each other as much freedom as possible to do our own projects. We give our producers as much freedom as we can. Because without freedom, there creativity will die.

During the time I started working for Liberty City Records I was studying Leisure management. I loved the course, my classmates were great and my teacher as well. The only thing that always bothered  me was, that a lot of people wanted to organize events. The same was true for a lot of people I’ve met, they all wanted to do something. Some of them wanted to organize events, some of them wanted a record label, other wanted to have a fashion line. The thing that bothered me was, that they didn’t do it.

I can understand that it can be very scary to start your own project, without a college degree and experience, but we live in the age of computers, just google it! Everything I organized I did without really knowing what I was doing, I just researched how to do it, discussed it with my fellow organizers and organized it. I surely had some failures, perhaps even more failures than success. But i've learned from my mistakes and only moved forward.

"Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security."

- Benjamin Franklin
