Thursday Tip: 1991: The Year Punk Broke

January 18, 2018

For everyone that longs for the days of non-sensical behaviour, loud music, and swirling mosh pits, 1991: The Year Punk Broke is a documentary following Sonic Youth on a two week tour trough Europe featuring Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., Babes in Toyland, Gumball and The Ramones

With this killer line-up you will find plenty of live performances throughout the movie. Moreover, there are many cameos by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl since Sonic Youth and Nirvana where both signed to Sub-Pop back in the day. This was quite the accomplishment according to Kurt Cobain, not knowing what the future would hold.

1991: The Year Punk Broke shows both bands before Nirvana's big breakthrough and the grunge craze that followed in the '90s, and gives us a peek into the lives and shenanigans of these young but by now respected bands.
