We've all been working on our summer-bodies for ages, and soon the time will come to be rewarded: festival season. Over the next couple of weeks, the LCR crew is lining up some fine festivals for you, and this week we got Dr. Music's picks for best all-round festivals in Northern-Europe.
Lowlands // Biddinghuizen // NL // 17 - 19 August
[ Lowlands 2017 Official Aftermovie ]
This one, officially called A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise, is on of the Netherlands’ major festivals. It is known in particular as providing a stage to lesser-known acts and many forms of extravaganza. Taking place in a piece of man-made land - Flevoland - this festival has a lot to offer for a wide audience. Besides the main stages, of which there are three, there are numerous smaller venues like the Titty Twister or the 24/7 stage. Definitely a must-see for every Dutchie.
Roskilde Festival // Roskilde // Denmark // 30 June - 7 July
[ Noisia "Outer Edges" at Roskilde Festival 2017 ]
Perhaps Denmark is not particularly known for its party vibes, but Roskilde Festival will show you the wild ways of the Danes. This 8-day festival takes place in the eponymous place in the east of Denmark, and features a wide variety of acts. At only a 45-minute drive from Copenhagen you’ll be sure to find a lot of urban youth there. Headliners this year include Massive Attack and Eminiem, but be sure to check out Four Tet, Konni Kass, and Juju & Jordash too!
Flow Festival // Helsinki // Finland // 10 - 12 August
[ Flow Festival 2017 ]
Dancing in the midst of Finns is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be treasured by those traveling to the Scandinavian peninsula this summer. Being on the outskirts of Europe, Finland is mostly known for Angry Birds, Nokia-throwing, and hobby horse racing contests. Nevertheless, Flow Festival - at the Suvilahti power plant - is an amazing showcase event for a broad range of artists. While they pull in some big fish (last year they featured Frank Ocean and Aphex Twin), they leave a lot of space for local talent too. This year they'll be hosting the Arctic Monkeys and Kendrick Lamar, yet don't miss out on Helena Hauff or Anna of the North. Once you get over the alcohol prices this could well be the best weekend of your summer.
