Thursday Tip: musicmap

March 1, 2018

A wide variety of musical genres and styles popped up in LCR's blogs over the past year. Some of them quite niche, like slow core or Californian hardcore punk, some of them more mainstream, like reggae or drum 'n bass. If you feel yourself dazzled by all of these names and labels check out https://musicmap.info/ to gain insight on (pop) music's development and consequent diversification into the manifold genres there are today.

musicmap is an interactive mapping of the development of pop music's numerous sub-styles. It allows for a musical journey through 'the genealogy and history of popular music genres from origin till present (1870-2016).' The site offers a fresh perspective through their many approaches to the theme, featuring "super-genres" as well as deeper layers - ranging from labels like "rap" to "fidget house & complextro." It certainly forms a handy appendix to LCR's broad spectrum of music discussed in our blog!
